Made to measure Molteni plays centre stage for
Gordon Ramsay’s critically acclaimed TV series!

The pride and joy of Swedish chef Christian Sandefeldt is the two tonnes of stainless steel sitting in the middle of his open plan kitchen at Deep, a newly opened seafood restaurant in the upmarket Imperial Wharf and this year’s playground to Gordon Ramsay’s very popular UK television show the F word.

Each week a new team of amateur culinary enthusiast have the chance to work under Gordon’s spotlight to produce a 3-course meal that is 100% perfect & delicious to 50 diners!

The challenge is set for the enthusiasts to produce a starter main and desert perfectly to Gordon’s highest standards. Each diner is given the option to only pay for the course if they are satisfied with the meal they receive. With the amount of meals totally paid for will ultimately judge that weeks team performance. The team with the most courses paid for will return to cook in the final episode of the show.

The Molteni suite proudly plays a pivotal role as the primary cooking station for the challenge! As well as being the undisputed hub of the kitchen, the custom built Molteni suite also reflects owner of The Deep Christian’s personal tastes: it features a large Motorhead logo enamelled on the front.

“Electrolux offered me some enamelling: you know, my name or the name of the restaurant. I just felt that was a little too pretentious. In fact an old man who worked in the enamelling factory said to me, ‘If the customer doesn’t know the name of the chef or the restaurant then you’re pretty crap’, so I decided not to have my name!” The Motorhead artwork neatly complements the Bose sound system which was installed into the ceiling, playing the chef’s favourite rock music for all to enjoy. How did Electrolux come to be involved in the Deep project? Christian had previous experience of a Molteni and was eager to have his own. “Electrolux own Molteni and they were keen to do something for me,” he says. Molteni is based in France in a small, exclusive factory where every suite is made to order – at a price which reflects the degree of craftsmanship and quality of materials that go into each one.

Christian couldn’t be happier with the end result, and waxes lyrical about the “great burners” and “really solid oven doors”, amongst other features. “I was sceptical about the electric ignitors – they don’t usually work,” he says. “But these do: first click and they light up. It’s a really good piece of kit.

“The whole thing took six months from design to completion. The design started with Just me and my architect, so we had the basic layout already sorted a and I had in my mind exactly how I wanted the suite to be. Molteni were really enthusiastic. I got a good deal, but it certainly didn’t come cheap.”

Having worked on a Molteni in the past the suite’s quality and efficiency didn’t come as a complete surprise to Christian. What has been an eye opener, however, is the rest of the equipment he bought from Electrolux. “I’m way impressed. Especially with the fridges – they’re brilliant. The quality of the steel,” he enthuses, “the thickness of it; it’s twice as thick as anything I know. They come down to temperature really quickly, they’re quite amazing.” With its predominantly fish and seafood based menu, stunning minimalist décor and plush, suede-covered chairs in a restful shade of ecru, Deep is ideally placed to appeal to the wealthy clientele living and working in Imperial Wharf. Will the kitchen become as famous for its Motorhead logo and the F Word show as for the quality of its cooking? Only time will tell.
